ORIENTEERING

Orienteering is a competitive sport in which participants use detailed map and a compass to find certain points on the course. To verify you have found the certain point on the map, the orienteer uses a chip to punch into the reader, next to the flag to mark his or her control card. Different punches make different patterns of holes in the paper.

EQUIPMENT
  • Chip device which will be inserted into the reader when you find the point you are looking for on the map.
  • Map
  • Compass
  • Practical clothing for outdoors (trainers, loose clothing)

SKILLS NEEDED?

For orienteering you need to have co-ordination and speed skills, to move fast and efficently around the course as quickly as possible. You also need to be able to read a map and understand how a compass works, to ensure you dont get lost and waste time, which could potentially get you time deductions on your final time.
