REVIEWING PERFORMANCE

Go Ape

Strengths...

Climbing technique: When climbing up the ladders at the start of each course and up the cargo nets I had a good climbing technique which was quick and efficient which helped me cover the apparatus quicker.

Control of hitting cargo nets: This was a strength because as soon as I hit the net I gripped on and immediately started climbing and moving on through the course.

Control of stepping onto zip-line: At first I was nervous about stepping out onto the zip wire however I became more confident throughout the session and gained control every time I attempted it.

Strength:  I needed a lot of strength to pull myself up the cargo net especially at the end of the course where I had fatigued and it took a lot more effort than the previous apparatus.

Balance: Balance was an important component of fitness throughout this activity especially when covering crosses in the tree zone. Also when standing on each platform waiting for other group members to cross to was important to remain balanced and focused when clipping yourself onto the tree trunk.

Co-ordination: Co-ordination was a strength when taking part in go ape because it was important to control both arms and legs at the same time whilst altering body position and changing ropes at various stages over the course.

Communication: Throughout the course I constantly communicated with the person in front and behind of me to ensure there was no one on the crossing at once and no more than 3 people on the platforms for our own safeties. As if the person in front struggled with certain apparatus they could advise you as the person behind on certain techniques, which could of been to my advantage.

Motivation: Due to my fear of heights motivation was a key aspect of the course for my self, because Megan was encouraging me to continue I also motivation Elijah through areas of the apparatus building up both our confidences.

Decision making: Decision making was a strength as well because there was often different routes to take which varied in intensities. Also deciding on when to step onto the zip wire was a decision because you had to ensure you were fully clipped on.

Weaknesses...

Body positioning:  When climbing through each apparatus I quite often got my ropes tangled due to my body positioning which time delayed me because I had to untie myself and start again.

Control of landing: This was a weakness for me because I spent too long thinking about how to leave the platform and checking I was tied on correctly I forgot to drag my heels and stand up at the end of the zip wire; meaning that I fell on my back each time.

Confidence: This was a weakness because I am scared of heights and lacked confidence throughout certain areas of the course; however I got more comfortable throughout each apparatus especially the zip wire.

Mountain Biking

Strengths...

Changing Gear:  Changing gear was strength because I understood which gear I needed to be in over different intensities; however I found it difficult on some terrains to control my gear change and it took me a while to make my decision.

Pedalling: Pedalling was easy and was the only technique I didn’t spend time thinking about because I felt confident with the basic technique as I have rode a bike many times before.

Bike Handling: I had good control over the bike especially when covering different terrains and intensities over hills and round burns. Bike handling was important when riding downhill to avoid falling off and injuring yourself.

Terrains: I had a clear understanding of how to control the bike over different terrains and which parts I needed to speed up or slow down on and become more cautious.

Balance: I had really good balance when controlling the bike this was probably because of my figure skating as it is crucial on the ice; so I was able to transfer this technique onto mountain biking.

Co-ordination: My co-ordination was also a strength because I found it easy to control different body parts (arms and legs) at the same time, again probably because of my skating.

Speed: Due to me having good co-ordination, speed was a good component of fitness for me in this activity because I could control the bike fast at high speeds and intensities.

Cardiovascular Endurance: I had good cardio when riding the bike over the course because I am so used to training for times a week at high intensity without fatiguing; allowing me to continue easier throughout the rest of the course.

Muscular Endurance:  Similarly to my cardio I am so used to training at high intensity through my training as a figure skater, that my muscles are able to continue working over long periods of time without getting tired.

Motivation: I felt very motivated in this activity because I was so confident and constantly stayed nearer the front of the group throughout the whole course which made me more motivated to continue working to the best of my ability. Motivation was also a strength because I motivated Emma and she motivated me vice versa.

Self-control: I thought this was a strength because I personally decided how fast I was going to cover the track and this allowed me to control the bike better.

Confidence: As I have rode a bike before and felt confident in specific techniques needed to control the bike especially on different terrains I was confident over most of the course. Even when riding uphill I never stopped and did not fatigue, allowing me to become more motivated and confident enough to carry on.

Weaknesses...

Stopping: Stopping was a weakness because I was so involved in the course and changing gears etc that I lacked concentration in the correct technique when stopping.

Judgement: Before covering burns on the track I had to judge which gear and which speed I was going to go into it, to avoid falling off and injuring ourselves which I found difficult because I wasn’t sure how difficult the burn would be until I rode up it.
